Anywhere but here…

For the site-specific installation, I used banana boxes and different videos in order to relate the history of the building itself into the presentation. (The Las Palmas building used to be the warehouse of the Holland-America Cruise Line. After the Second World War there was a massive migration from Europe to America from the pier that this building is standing today. The ships carried people to the other side of the world and brought with them goods, products, and food on the way back to Rotterdam and were kept in the Las Palmas building until further distribution to Europe. Today Las Palmas has become an important cultural center in Rotterdam, and it was important for me to keep communicating with the past history and to relate it to migration today.)
