BIOGRAPHY
Hatuey Ramos-Fermín (pronounced: Ahtway Rahmos Fairmean) is a Dominican born, Puerto Rican raised ("Dominirican") educator and multimedia artist. Ramos-Fermín is currently based in New York City.
In 1995, he received a scholarship to study at Puerto Rico's San Juan Art League until 1997. He then continued at the University of Puerto Rico where he received a B.A. in Fine Arts in 2002. During his undergraduate tenure, Ramos-Fermín was awarded the university’s Presidential Scholarship to go to study as an exchange student of art and theater at Hunter College C.U.N.Y. (1998-1999). Following his B.A., he was awarded the Alumnus of the prestigious HSP Huygens Programme for excellent students (2006) to complete an M.F.A. in Photography at St. Joost Art and Design Academy in Breda, The Netherlands, (2007). His artistic work has been exhibited internationally in The Netherlands, United States of America, and Puerto Rico.
As an educator he has worked with community-based programs such as award winning and Emmy nominated, Communications Project of the Puerto Rico Public Broadcast Corporation as a photography instructor and curator. Ramos-Fermín works as a teaching artist at the Bronx Museum of Arts in their Teen Council Program, he also worked with the Center for Urban Pedagogy (CUP), Lehman College Art Gallery, Hostos Community College among other institutions.
